| Methods of Working: |
| Direct Method: |
The direct method is exactly that. You stick your
tessarae directly onto the surface that you will be grouting. This is the
easiest way to work as you can see the progress you are making and how the
colors look together. I always use direct method if I am using ceramic tiles
since they are glazed with color on one side. |
| Indirect or Reverse Method: |
If you want a flat surface for e.g. a table, then you
would use the indirect method. This entails reversing your pattern and sticking
the tiles face down. If you’re working with tiles where the color can be seen
right through the tile, it’s easy, but if you’re working with tiles that only
have the color on one side (e.g. ceramic tiles) it’s a bit more difficult. A
trick is to use sticky clear plastic paper (kids use it in covering their
schoolbooks). This way you can stick your tiles down on the plastic and lift
it to see how your mosaic is coming along. |
